Project Overview
Spotter is a smart parking app designed to help Toronto drivers quickly find available, affordable, and secure parking spots — with a focus on real-time data, personalized preferences, and local integration.
Born out of the frustration of circling busy city blocks, Spotter uses user-centered design to streamline the parking experience with features like live availability, Green P integration, and smart filtering. The project aimed to reduce user stress, save time, and support more efficient urban mobility.
Problem Statement
How might we make parking availability more transparent and accessible in real-time to avoid the stress and frustration when searching for a parking spot?
Persona
After research, I learned most downtown workers prefer taking the subway to avoid traffic and expensive parking — which, in itself, proves how bad the parking issue is.
So I shifted focus to a different audience: event-goers and dinner attendees.
From surveys and interviews, users told me:
They want real-time parking info to avoid circling endlessly
They care about price transparency, since urban parking is expensive
